Gippsland Opera are proud to announce that OPERA BY THE LAKES returns Sunday March 19 2023
Each and every year we have presented Opera By The Lakes. It has been a totally sold out, with COVID that came to an end, much to the disappointment of thousands of patrons, from far and wide. OBTL has always attracted audiences from all over Australia. It has the reputation of bringing down first-class singers, and musicians, a stunning location, with views to take your breath away over the Gippsland Lakes, which set the scene for a perfect afternoon’s entertainment.
First class organization makes this event a success, including delicious, boxed lunches, with a glass of wine. Plenty of places in this beautiful 167-hectare national park to also B.Y.O. picnic. Or simply find a viewing platform to enjoy watching the sea eagles soar on thermal currents. Do not forget your cameras, it is that sort of venue.
With performers such as Teddy Tahu Rhodes, David Hobson, Alexandra Lewis, that amazing quartet of singers the Idea of North, Sylvie Paladino, Marina Prior, tenor Shanul Sharma, coloratura soprano Georgia Wilkinson, Nathan Lay, Jeremy Kleeman, Olivia Cranwell, Madeleine Crombie, flautist Jane Rutter, who charmed the birds from the trees.
2023 will likewise have a line up not to be missed, will release that information when confirmed.

With a stunning venue, set in a natural amphitheater on a cliff top, with views over the largest lakes system in the Southern Hemisphere, where white bellied eagles fly on thermal currents. All that, plus over 167 hectares of National Park, complete with heritage homestead.
For the past seven years this venue has been the home for Opera By The Lakes, which completely sells out, is it any wonder, when together with that venue, the audience have had the privilege of listening to world class opera and music theatre singers.
It is indeed a wonderful feeling to be able to say that O.B.T.L. is back on Sunday March 19 2023 and what a stella cast, with GUY NOBLE one of Australia’s top conductors, compere’s and accompanist with a great sense of humor.
The world-renowned bass baritone TEDDY TAHU RHODES who has sung in the majority of the worlds famous Opera Houses, Teddy commands the stage by his very physical presence. The voice is like no other, a richness and warmth of tone, he sings with meaning, flawless, and remembered long after the curtain comes down.
Mezzo Soprano SALLY-ANNE RUSSELL Australian and International acclaimed Opera singer
Sally-Anne has over fifty operatic roles in her repertoire and has sung in over fifteen countries.
A full, warm tone throughout from bottom to top register, with a sense of humour that adds to the performance.
The stars keep on coming, with another world class singer the popular tenor SHANUL SHARMA with a voice capable of ‘dazzling fireworks’ (The Age), ‘laser-like precision’ (Limelight Magazine), ‘radiant high notes’ (Opera Libera) and ‘resplendent clarity
Add to this line up ‘The Voice’ Opera Australian Coloratura Soprano GEORGIA WILKINSON who has just finished playing the lead role of ‘Dorothy’ in Vic Opera’s ‘Wizard of Oz, ‘and with Opera Australia the understudy Christine in Phantom of the Opera on the harbor.
To add to this star studded cast, we are introducing you to a young baritone, WILL JONES who is proud to making his first appearance at O.B.T.L.
